On page optimisation is what you have to do to make your website search engine friendly. It starts by first finding your key phrases for your site which I cover in another post.
On Page Optimisation SEO tips
- Create powerful page titles
The title of your webpage is probably the most important section of your page. The title appears in the top left hand corner of your webpage, and it basically tells the search engines what your page is about. The title of your page appears in search engine result pages so it needs to contain your keywords or key phrases which will entice people to click and visit your site.
- Write keyword rich meta description tags
Every web page should contain a strong keyword rich meta description tag. Meta descriptions are important because some search engines will display your meta description in their search results in the page snippets. Keep your meta descriptions less than 155 characters. Start with your home page.
- Use Header Tags (<h1> <h2> <h3> ) to emphasise important headlines
Your main headline should appear first and should contain your primary keywords.
- Write keyword rich content
Write naturally, and work your keywords (including variations) in where they make sense with in the content of the site. Importantly write to sell, write to persuade, and write to inform your readers. Try to include your main keyword(s) in the first and last sentences of the body text.
- Optimise your Images for search engines
Add keyword relevant ALT tags to your images. Alt tags are the HTML tags used to display alternative text for graphical images. Your alt tags should be descriptive and include your keyword(s) when possible.
Note: Do not abuse the alternative text tag by stuffing it with keywords.
- Optimise Internal links for higher Page rank
Focus on building an internal link strategy as it will not only help your seo efforts but will also aid user navigation. Internal links appear in your body text and should contain your keyword(s) and should link to relevant content pages.
- Use Outbound links to build trust
Google tracks “related sitesâ€. Therefore it is important that you link where appropriate to high quality websites that are part of your industry. Use keyword rich anchor text when making the link.
- Use tag clouds to improve your SEO
Implement a Search Engine friendly Tag cloud. A Tag cloud contains a list of the most popular topics contained on a website. Popular key phrases are displayed in larger fonts. From glancing at the Tag Cloud you can quickly tell what a website is about.
- Add company address and phone number on every page
- Avoid duplicate content
- Avoid Keyword Stuffing
